The skies have been full of smoke for the past week, but today it is much worse.  Visibility is down to around 300 meters.  People with allergies and respiratory issues are having a hard time. The news is blaming the farmers burning their fields, but the locals here are blaming the Burmese for burning their mountains.  Every year during dry season, farmers and people in the villages burn their fields and mountains.  They claim that it helps the crops and allows them to have a large harvest of mushrooms during rainy season.  In Thailand, we do not have to worry about brush fires much.  The undergrowth does not burn easily.  Therefore, they usually pour gas on it to get it to started.  Once hot enough, it does burn, but usually quickly burns out and smolder for hours.

Whatever the reason, it is much worse this year than we have ever seen it.  The mountains around our house are so full of smoke that you can not see them at all.  Everyone’s eyes and throats are burning. It is triggering me some asthma attacks.  Thankfully, the medicine is keeping me clear enough.  Please pray for the smoke to clear and for the Thai people to realize the problem burning everything causes.

Kristi had an endoscopy done on Tuesday and was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. We were almost certain that she had it already, so it wasn’t a surprise. Kristi is so thankful to finally know what has been causing a lot of her health problems. Thankfully the treatment is actually fairly easy. Kristi just has to quit eating gluten! She said that she would gladly give up gluten in order to feel better! We want to thank all of you who have been praying for Kristi’s health problems!

Matthew finished his Bachelor Degree in Information Technologies from Florida Institute of Technology last Saturday. We had a surprise party after church on Sunday. It was amazing that he never even guessed that something was up. Many extra people came (mostly English students and people we have been witnessing to) to congratulate Matthew. It is a very special milestone for us. We have home schooled Matthew from kindergarten through high school. Now, he has a full degree done completely over the internet with a highly respected school. He graduated magna cum laude (top 5% in a university of 8,000 students). We are all very proud of Matthew. Please pray for him. He is planning to continue his education by doing a Bible degree as well.

Please be praying for our Christmas activities this week. Tuesday starts the week with the Christmas program at Phecharawit School (7th to 12th graders). That school has around 800 students that will get to hear the Gospel. They also have tentatively given me permission to teach a class on Christianity in the school next school year. The government requires all public schools to teach about the major religions of the world. It is a great opportunity to present the Gospel. Once I get in one school with this program, it may open the door to other schools as well. Please pray that it will work out okay.

On Wednesday, we are doing our Christmas program in the local jail. We will have around 50-60 prisoners attending that meeting. Only the prisoners that have good behavior and are not new can go to extra activities.

On Thursday, we are doing our Christmas program in Mai Ngam School. It has around 50 students.

On Friday, we are doing our Christmas program at our church. We usually have around 120 people come to our Christmas program.

None of these activities will have any fruit if we do have bathe them in prayers. Please be praying with us for God to work in the lives of these people.

Please be praying these next few day. From Wednesday through Saturday, we will be handling out tracts and other literature that explains the Gospel at the local Loy Krathong Festival. This festival is the biggest event each year here in Tak, Thailand. We usually average around 5,000 tracts handed out each year. The local government gave us a free location to set up a table to hand out tracts and other literature. We will also have balloons and games for the kids that come by. Please be praying for us to have a good opportunity to witness, and for God to mightily use this outreach to open people’s hearts to the Gospel.
